Omaha Hi Low Preflop Strategy

For beginner Omaha hi low players it is standard practice to play a pretty tight game. Allowing yourself the time to mature with the game and define your style of play. This means only playing the Omaha hi low premium starting hands and letting everything in between go.

Unlike hold’em where your post flop play is more of a decision, in Omaha Hi Lo it with your starting hand decision that affects your play most of the time. Many Hold’em players always want to bet strong pre flop with strong hands weeding out the competition and in Omaha hi low that is not always the case. Many times with premium hands you want to limp in to allow as many players as possible to enter the pot. Thus maximizing your potential earnings if you should hit on the flop. The other luxury of just calling is that you disguise your true strength of you hand.

This strategy is also safe on your bankroll both ways if you loose and if you win. What I mean by this is that by just limping into the pot you limit your losses when you miss and get big reward when you spike a huge hand.

The exception to the rule is when you are on the button or in the blinds and everyone that was going to enter the pot has. By just betting one or two over the initial bet you can force the misfits out and find whom your real competition is going to be against. So to recap in late position or the blinds raise with the top Omaha hi low starting hands to build the pot as large as possible. With a strong starting that are not premium limit your raising until you actually have a hand. This type of play will come more comfortable with experience and time the more you play Omaha hi low.
